Abstract

The utilization of renewable energy, such as Solar Power Plants (PLTS), faces intermittency challenges that require stable and efficient battery energy storage systems. This study focuses on the design and simulation of a bidirectional DC-DC converter as a key interface unit between the battery and the power distribution system. The novelty of this research lies in the optimization of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control schemes combined with current management algorithms to ensure efficient battery charging and discharging processes with low current ripple. The methodology involves power electronic circuit modeling, calculation of filter components based on switching frequency, and dynamic testing through MATLAB/Simulink simulations with varying duty cycles. During a 10-second charging period, the SoC increased from 50% to 50.07% with a charging current of 2.041 A and a battery voltage of 25.98 V, moving toward the full-charge voltage of 27.93 V. The negative current value indicates the direction of flow from the 48 V DC voltage source to the 24 V battery. During a 10-second discharge, the SoC dropped from 50% to 49.76%, with a discharge current of 9.189 A and a battery voltage of 25.32 V, moving toward the 18 V cut-off voltage. The positive current value indicates the direction of flow from the 24 V battery to the 48 V DC voltage source.
