Journal of Borneo Nursing Insight

The Journal of Borneo Nursing Insights (JBNI) and its Publisher, Faculty of Health Science Universitas Borneo Tarakan follows the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics). 

The JBNI is dedicated to maintaining the utmost standards of publication ethics and implements every feasible action to prevent unethical publication practices. Authors who send their manuscripts to JBNI certify the originality and non-publication of their work, with no consideration for publication elsewhere. Furthermore, authors validate that the manuscript is their own creation, devoid of complete or partial copying or plagiarism from other sources, and they declare any actual or potential conflicts of interest related to their work or any associated partial benefits.

DUTIES OF EDITORS

Decision on the Publication of Articles

The Editor in Chief of JBNI holds the responsibility of determining the suitability of submitted articles for publication in the journal. The Editor in Chief's decisions may be influenced by the journal's editorial board policies and are subject to legal obligations related to defamation, copyright violations, and plagiarism. The Editor in Chief may also consult with other editors or reviewers during the decision-making process.

Review of Manuscripts

The Editor in Chief is responsible for ensuring that each manuscript undergoes an initial assessment by the editor/co-editor. They may utilize suitable software to assess the originality of the manuscript's content. Once the manuscript passes this examination, it is then sent to two anonymous referees for peer review. Each referee provides a recommendation on whether the manuscript should be published in its current form, require modifications, or be rejected. The duration of each review phase is typically a minimum of one month from the point at which the reviewer expresses their willingness to review, although the time frame may vary depending on the article's quality. In cases of exceptionally high or low-quality articles, expedited decisions are possible.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest 

Unpublished materials revealed within a submitted manuscript should not be employed in personal research by anyone who has access to the manuscript unless they obtain explicit written consent from the author.

Fair play 

Manuscripts will be assessed based solely on their intellectual quality, without consideration of the author's race, gender, sexual orientation, religious faith, ethnic background, nationality, or political ideology.

Confidentiality 

The Editor in Chief/editors and any members of the editorial team are prohibited from divulging any details regarding a submitted manuscript to anyone except for the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisors, and the publisher.

DUTIES OF REVIEWERS

Promptness

If a reviewer finds it impossible to complete the manuscript review within the designated timeframe, they should promptly inform the editor. This will enable the editor to assign the manuscript to an alternative reviewer.

Confidentiality

Details about manuscripts provided by authors must be safeguarded and regarded as confidential and privileged information.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews must be conducted in an objective manner, devoid of personal criticism toward the author. Reviewers should express their opinions clearly, providing supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources 

Reviewers are responsible for recognizing pertinent previously published work that the authors have not cited. Any statement that has been reported elsewhere should include the appropriate citation. Reviewers should also bring to the Editor in Chief's notice any significant resemblance or duplication between the manuscript being assessed and any other published paper known to them.

Conflict of Interest 

Reviewers must refrain from evaluating manuscripts if they possess conflicts of interest arising from competitive, cooperative, or other associations or affiliations with any of the authors, businesses, or institutions linked to the papers.

DUTIES OF AUTHORS

Reporting standards

Authors of original research reports are expected to provide a precise description of the conducted work and an impartial analysis of its importance. The data on which the research is based should be accurately represented in the paper. The paper should include enough information and references to enable others to duplicate the study. Dishonest or deliberately erroneous statements are considered unethical and are not tolerated.n

Data Access and Retention 

Authors might be requested to furnish the primary data linked to a paper for editorial assessment. They should be willing to make this data publicly available if possible, and in any case, they should be willing to preserve this data for a reasonable period following publication.

Originality and Plagiarism 

Authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others this must be appropriately cited or quoted.

Multiple Publications

As a general practice, authors should refrain from publishing manuscripts that essentially report the same research in multiple journals or primary publications. Simultaneously submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal is considered unethical in publishing and is not permissible.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.

Authorship of the Paper

Authorship should be confined to individuals who have played a substantial role in conceiving, planning, carrying out, or interpreting the research study in question. All individuals who have made significant contributions should be recognized as co-authors. In cases where there are others who have participated in specific substantial aspects of the research project, their involvement should be acknowledged or they should be listed as contributors.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

If an author identifies a substantial mistake or inaccuracy in their previously published work, it is the author's responsibility to promptly inform the journal editor or publisher and collaborate with the editor to retract or rectify the paper.

The publisher and JBNI strictly prohibit any kind of plagiarism, which is universally recognized as a grave violation of scientific ethics. Cases of plagiarism in a manuscript or a published paper, whether identified or reported, will be addressed with utmost seriousness. We continuously seek guidance and recommendations from our Editorial and Reviewer Board to prevent any publication ethics misconduct.
