Original Research Article

Civil Engineering Scientific Journal (CESJ) accepts original research articles reporting scientific investigations, experimental studies, field observations, surveys, numerical simulations, theoretical analyses, and applied research in civil engineering.

Submitted manuscripts must present original findings, demonstrate methodological rigor, and contribute to the development of civil engineering knowledge, methods, technologies, or professional practice. Research must align with the journal’s Focus and Scope and be supported by appropriate methods, reliable data, sound analysis, and a critical interpretation of the findings.

CESJ welcomes original research within the following areas:

  • Structural Engineering: Structural analysis and design, reinforced concrete and steel structures, earthquake engineering, structural dynamics, structural health monitoring, and the assessment, rehabilitation, or strengthening of existing structures.

  • Concrete and Building Materials: Concrete technology, cementitious materials, material characterization, durability, recycled materials, innovative construction materials, and the evaluation of their physical and mechanical properties.

  • Transportation Engineering: Transportation planning, traffic engineering, pavement materials and design, road infrastructure, transportation safety, and sustainable transportation systems.

  • Geotechnical Engineering: Soil mechanics, foundation engineering, slope stability, ground improvement, geotechnical investigations, and soil–structure interaction.

  • Water Resources and Coastal Engineering: Hydrology, hydraulics, flood assessment, river engineering, irrigation, drainage, water resources management, coastal processes, and coastal infrastructure.

  • Construction Engineering and Management: Construction methods and technologies, project planning and scheduling, cost estimation, productivity, quality management, occupational safety, risk management, and sustainable construction.

Research involving computational methods and emerging technologies, including building information modeling (BIM), artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital monitoring, is welcome when it addresses a clearly defined problem within these areas.

Manuscript Requirements

Original Research Articles must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. Originality
The manuscript must report original research, must not have been previously published as a journal article, and must not be under consideration by another journal. Any related publications or previously disseminated versions must be disclosed to the editor.

  2. Scientific Contribution
The study must identify a clear research problem, establish its relevance through an appropriate review of previous research, and explain how its findings advance knowledge or engineering practice.

  3. Research Methodology
Research methods, materials, data sources, experimental procedures, analytical techniques, and numerical models must be described in sufficient detail to support critical evaluation and, where applicable, reproducibility. Relevant assumptions, validation procedures, and methodological limitations should be explained.

  4. Results and Discussion
Results must be presented clearly and supported by appropriate evidence, including data, tables, figures, calculations, or model outputs. The discussion must interpret the findings, compare them with relevant studies, and explain their implications and limitations.

  5. Manuscript Format
Manuscripts must be prepared using the journal’s official template and submitted in an editable format accepted by its Author Guidelines and online submission system. Tables, figures, equations, citations, and references must follow the prescribed formatting requirements.

  6. Ethical Compliance
Authors must ensure research accuracy and integrity, acknowledge sources appropriately, disclose funding and relevant conflicts of interest, and comply with the journal’s authorship and publication ethics policies. Permissions and ethical approvals must be obtained where applicable.

Routine project descriptions, activity reports, or technical documentation without adequate scientific analysis and a clear scholarly contribution will not be considered.

Manuscript Structure

An Original Research Article should generally contain:

  1. Title.

  2. Author names and institutional affiliations.

  3. Abstract.

  4. Keywords.

  5. Introduction.

  6. Methods.

  7. Results and Discussion.

  8. Conclusion.

  9. Acknowledgments, where applicable.

  10. References.

Funding information, author contributions, conflicts of interest, data availability, and other relevant declarations should be provided where required by the journal.

Additional subsections may be included to reflect the research design and subject matter. Authors must follow the detailed instructions and arrangement specified in the journal’s Author Guidelines and manuscript template.

Editorial Assessment

All submissions undergo an initial editorial assessment of their relevance to the journal’s scope, originality, methodological adequacy, compliance with submission requirements, and overall scientific quality. Manuscripts meeting these requirements may proceed to peer review in accordance with the journal’s editorial policies.

Submission does not guarantee acceptance. The editor makes the final publication decision based on the manuscript’s scientific merit, relevance, quality, and reviewer recommendations.

Authors are encouraged to consult the Author Guidelines and use the official manuscript template before submission.
